The employer nominated scheme allows employers to recruit highly skilled workers and nominate them for a permanent residence visa. The focus of the employer nominated scheme is to enhance Australia’s ability to compete in the international market place, to maximize the training and employment of Australian residents; and the increase in skills and technology through the transferring of knowledge and skills.

The Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme is similar to the employer nominated scheme, but is specifically targeted to the regional and low population growth areas of Australia where the employers are having trouble attracting skilled employees. The regional sponsored migration scheme is different to the employer nominated scheme as the workers do not have to be highly skilled as defined in the employer nominated scheme and there is no national labour market testing requirement.
